CALIPARI: PROSECUTOR'S EXPERTS, ONLY ONE ARM FIRED
(AGI) - Rome, Oct. 25 - According to the forensic expert's
report only one arm, a 7.62 bore machine gun, fired against the
car on which travelled on March 4 Sismi (Italian secret
service) officer, Nicola Calipari and Manifesto daily
journalist Giuliana Sgrena with their chauffeur, secret agent,
A.C. Deputy police superintendent Alfredo Luzi, Carabinieri
captain Bruno Cardinetti and professors Donato Firrao, Furio
Vatta and Carlo Torre handed the report to prosecutor Franco
Ionta, who coordinates investigations against terrorism, today.
Prosecutors have opened an investigation on the Calipari case.
The report is composed by 80 pages and attachments, photos and
graphics. Experts appointed by Rome's prosecutor's office took
the same conclusions attained by American experts in their
report. According to this report soldier Mario Lozano fired.
The substantial difference between the two reports is the car
speed. According to the US experts the car was travelling at
around 90 kilometres per hour, and was a danger for militaries
at the checkpoint on the road to Baghdad airport. According to
Italian experts the car was travelling between 60 and 65 km per
hour. The five experts, who used laser to analyze the nine
fragments of bullet found in the car, agreed that the images
taken from the study of micro-streaks "belong to the same class
of arm and to the same arm". It is impossible to say precisely
how many bullets hit the car. Experts found nine holes but
bullets could be between 12 and 30. -
