Het gaat om deze zaak. We zijn gemaild vanwege dit artikel op alt-f4. We hebben het artikel inmiddels op duidelijke wijze geschoond; ondanks dat we groot vertrouwen hebben in de betrouwbaarheid van Daniel Hopsicker, zijn de betwiste zaken voor ons niet verifieerbaar. Om het op een zaak te laten aankomen, gaat zelf alt-f4 te ver: wie voor een floridiaanse rechtbank voor Maurice de Hond wil gaan spelen, kan zich melden in de comments. We rekenen er op dat de betwiste zaken desondanks niet uit de internetarchieven zullen verdwijnen, en raden de lezer aan om zelf op onderzoek te gaan.

Hedenochtend om 10:33:50 (vanaf minuut 33:50) te horen op nieuwszender Radio 1 bij De Ochtenden van de EO.
"Er bereikt het bericht dat Hugo Chávez zich drie van de zes antillen heeft toegeëigend. Zijn troepen zouden vanochtend om zeven uur Nederlandse tijd geland zijn op het strand van Curaçao, en er zouden ook slachtoffers zijn gevallen. We proberen verbinding te maken met het gebied, maar alle lijnen zijn uitgevallen. Wat we wel hebben is een politieke verklaring van president Chávez van Venezuela, die hij via de staatstelevisie heeft afgegeven."

"Maar kunnen de Amerikanen dan niet helpen? Want die zijn wel in de buurt"
"Nou, dat hangt er maar vanaf wat er gaat gebeuren. Kijk, je zou denken van wij zijn een Navo-bondgenoot, dus Amerikanen moeten ons gewoon helpen. Er is alleen een vervelend probleem, die eilanden van ons liggen beneden de Kreeftskeerkring, en dat is de zuidelijke grens van het Navo-verdragsgebied. Dus er is geen enkele verdragsverplichting voor de Amerikanen om ons te helpen. Dus we moeten maar aardig naar de Amerikanen kijken en dan maar hopen of ze ons willen helpen."
"Ja, ja, en als ze ons niet te hulp komen, hoe kunnen we die oorlog dan winnen? Want voordat die Nederlandse troepen eens een keer daar aangekomen zijn, hebben die Venezolanen die kleine eilandjes allang.."
"Dan moeten we ze terugveroveren, nou dat lukt dus niet, denk ik. Daar zit dus gewoon een geweldig probleem. Dan krijg je dus blokkades enzo van die eilanden, of, ja, je kunt niet zo gek veel doen."
De beerput
Frank Hitzert van Panorama meent dat ,,het justitie wel heel goed uitkomt dat dit een valse aangifte is''. Hitzert: ,,Wij denken dat wij roeren in een beerput. En er zijn mensen die willen dat die beerput dicht blijft. Het kan goed zijn dat daarbij geen middel wordt geschuwd.''
NRC, 17-10-2003
In oktober 2003 kwam de Panorama en de GayKrant met een gezamenlijk dossier over mannelijke bezoekers van het Anne Frankplantsoen in Eindhoven, die seks zouden hebben met minderjarige jongens, soms tegen betaling. Eén van die bezoekers zou de secretaris-generaal van Justitie zijn, die in de reportage met een gefingeerde naam werd genoemd. Curieus, omdat er natuurlijk maar één secreatis-generaal is en die heet Joris Demmink. Diens advocaat drong er bij Nova op aan dat de man werd aangeduid als 'de topambtenaar', "om het laatste restje privacy van mijn cliënt te eerbiedigen". Er werd aangifte tegen de topambtenaar gedaan door een Tsjechische jongenshoer, wegens ontucht met een minderjarige. De aangifte bleek vals, de Panorama en de GayKrant moesten rectificeren, en de affaire verdween uit beeld.
Totdat er op 6-6-6 in de Turkse media een artikel verscheen waarin Demmink's naam voorkwam: Baybaşin'in Türkiye'ye iade pazarlığında 'seks' şantajı. Iets over ene Baybaşin en iets met seks-chantage.
De zaak Baybaşin kwam op deze site zijdelings aan bod in Operation Pabst, waarin vooral de Susurluk-affaire centraal staat — het symbool van de innige banden tussen de heroïne-maffia en de Turkse politiek, dat leidde tot het aftreden van de Minister van Binnenlandse Zaken, Mehmet Agar. Baybaşin was een soort klokkenluider, die over deze verstrengeling in het openbaar sprak, al vóór het ongeluk in Susurluk. In '95 besloot toenmalige minister van Justitie Winnie Sorgdrager gehoor te geven aan het Turkse verzoek om Baybaşin uit te leveren vanwege lidmaatschap van de PKK. Dat leidde tot de bizarre rechtzaak, voornamelijk gebaseerd op telefoontaps waarmee gerommeld was, en die in 2002 eindigde in een levenslange gevangenisstraf o.a. wegens medeplichtighied aan moord en poging tot uitlokking van moord.Eergisteren deed het advocatenechtpaar van Baybaşin, Pieter Herman Bakker Schut en Adèle van der Plas aangifte tegen Joris Demmink (en anderen). In de aangifte citeren ze delen uit een uittreksel van een nog geheim rapport van de Turkse overheid naar de rol van die overheid in de internationale drugssmokkel:
"In dit door ons instituut opgemaakte rapport worden de details onderzocht van het complot dat door internationale kringen van belanghebbenden stap voor stap tegen de familie Bayabasin is geweven.

Deze onregelmatigheden vinden zelfs in het jaar 2006 nog steeds plaats. Bekend is dat naast deze bendes in het verleden ook ministers, volksvertegenwoordigers, politici, vooraanstaande bureaucraten, industriëlen en zelfstandige ondernemers in dit soort zaken waren verwikkeld.

De onderhandelingen tussen Nederland en de gemachtigden in Turkije, die connecties hadden met de bende, worden gedocumenteerd door één van de documenten uit de dossiers in de zaken tegen Hüseyin Baybasin, met het briefhoofd van het Nederlandse ministerie van justitie. Volgens het document d.d. 15 juli 1997 met het briefhoofd van het ministerie van justitie is er een telefoongesprek geweest in dit ministerie binnen het team dat de operatie uitvoerde: “De zaak Baybasin wordt gebruikt als drukmiddel ‘teneinde in een andere zaak iets van de Turkse autoriteiten gedaan te krijgen’.

En het geval waarvoor dit drukmiddel tegenover de Turkse bevoegde autoriteiten werd gebruikt heeft te maken met de in het document genoemde Joris Demmink.

Toen de Nederlandse pers uitgebreid over de perverse seks”party’s” van Demmink in de Republiek Tsjechië en in Roemenië begon te publiceren, is hierop een publicatieverbod uitgevaardigd, duidelijk is dat men heeft geprobeerd de zaak in de doofpot te stoppen. Bovendien was er, volgens informatie die wij tijdens ons onderzoek ter beschikking hebben gekregen nog iets dat niet tot de Nederlandse pers was doorgedrongen; Demmink had ook in Turkije soortgelijke “party’s” gerealiseerd. Omdat in 1995 in Bodrum tijdens zo’n “party” een wapen afging, is de politie ter plaatse gekomen. Gemeld wordt dat over de door de bende, die de internationale drugshandel regelt, met behulp van hun ondersteuners uit ambtenarenkringen, in Turkije georganiseerde “party” gedetailleerde informatie is verstrekt aan en dat het is geregistreerd door de Turkse veiligheids- en inlichtingendiensten.

Aan de zijde van Nederland is door minister van justitie Winnie Sorgdrager en haar assistent Joris Demmink de zaak aan het rollen gebracht toen de door Hüseyin Baybasin van drugshandel beschuldigde directeur-generaal van politiezaken Mehmet Agar en premier Tansu Ciller begin 1997 met de Nederlandse minister van justitie Sorgdrager hebben gesproken en Tansu Ciller heeft verklaard dat Baybasin, die haar had beschuldigd, “tot zwijgen gebracht moest worden”. Blijkens hetgeen dat daar is besproken en de informatie uit verklaringen heeft Tansu Ciller toen het dossier Demmink op tafel gelegd.
De aangifte zet nog andere smeuïge details over de rechtzaak op een rij, zoals:
"In heel Connektikut"
De aanklacht voor poging tot moord die zou plaatsvinden in Kentucky, was vooral gebaseerd op het beruchte zinnetje 'to make him call' dat werd vertaald als 'hem koud maken'. Het telefoongesprek waarin Baybasin dat zou hebben gezegd, 'gesprek nummer 38', was met de Israëlische luitenant-kolonel Meyir Dahan die vorig jaar tegen de advocaten heeft verklaard:
I am certain about the fact that this conversation mentioned as ‘gesprek 38’ consists of a composition of several different telephone calls I had with him in the past.
Sterker nog:
De verbijstering van de heer Meir E. Dahan is waarschijnlijk vergelijkbaar met die van de FBI in Kentucky, USA, die recentelijk desgevraagd mededeelde dat er in Kentucky niets bekend was over deze poging tot uitlokking van moord in Kentucky.
De Turks-Nederlandse politietolk
Begin maart publiceerde de NRC twee artikelen over een Turks-Nederlandse politietolk die ervoor zorgde dat de moordenaars van Willem Endstra konden worden aangehouden maar die volgens de AIVD informatie over Turkse criminaliteit lekte naar Turkije en inmiddels is geschorst.
Volgens de aanklacht was deze Tayar Cetinkaya:
met een of twee andere politietolken, verantwoordelijk voor de (samenvattingen van de) telefoongesprekken die als (vrijwel uitsluitend) bewijsmateriaal aan de veroordeling van Baybasin ten grondslag liggen. n de strafzaak tegen Baybasin was reeds gebleken dat deze tolk, die tevens lid was van het politieteam van het IRT Noordoost-Nederland en derhalve geenszins een onafhankelijke tolk, in strijd met zijn geheimhoudingsplicht rechtstreeks contacten had onderhouden met de Turkse autoriteiten over het onderzoek tegen aangever. In die contacten gaf hij “gevraagd of ongevraagd informatie over de Nederlandse onderzoeken aan hen. Hij trekt op verzoek ook dingen voor hen na” – aldus reeds de toenmalige liaison-officier A.A.C.J. Schalks in Turkije op 8 juni 1999 tegenover de rechter-commissaris.(Noot: de NRC stuntelt, vanwege 'veiligheidsredenen', met de gefingeerde naam van de tolk, Ahmet Celik. "Hierdoor kan verwarring ontstaan over personen die daadwerkelijk deze of een vergelijkbare naam dragen", aldus de NRC. Inderdaad, bijvoorbeeld met de Celik uit het strafdossier van Baybaşin, die gegegijzeld zou zijn. Een fake-zaak, die door de Turkse politie in elkaar was gedraaid, zo meldt de aangifte.)
De Turks-Amerikaanse FBI-tolk
En zo belanden we bij een Amerikaanse kwestie, van een andere klokkenluider, de Turks-Amerikaanse FBI-tolk Sibel Edmonds. Zij werd kort na 11 september 2001 ingehuurd om informatie te vertalen over de aanslagen, en werd in maart 2002 ontslagen. Ze had ontdekt dat de FBI en een aantal Amerikaanse ministeries geïnfiltreerd zijn door Turkse organisaties die banden hebben met de internationale drugshandel, corruptie en terrorisme. De machtige Turkse lobby (bv. over de Armeense genocide) in de V.S. speelt daarbij een belangrijke rol. Sinds haar ontslag staat ze onder verschillende gag-orders, en is niet alles bespreekbaar voor haar. Ter afsluiting een citaat over 11-september:And what I have said all along is the fact that as far as the 9/11 is concerned, September 11 is concerned, these departments -- and when I say "these departments," the Department of Justice, the Department of State, and the Department of Defense -- have intentionally blocked the investigations of real -- the real criminals in this country. And we are talking about countries involved. The Vanity Fair article points out to Turkey -- countries. And it's very interesting. To this date, we are not hearing anything about targeting, you know, certain Central Asian countries. They are not speaking about the link between the narcotics and al Qaeda.

Escape from New York
1997 in 1981: Air Force One op weg naar Manhattan om daar in een wolkenkrabber te worden geboord door terroristen. Aan boord de totalitaire president van de U.S. of A. en belangrijker: een tape met atoomgeheimen. De bewaking van de maximum security prison die New York heet, kijkt toe.
John Carpenter schreef het scenario voor Escape from New York naar aanleiding van Watergate. Destijds werd de film te zwart gevonden, en pas toen Carpenter met Halloween wat geld had verdiend kon hij de film opnemen in St-Louis, waar net een wijk was afgebrand. 20 jaar voor dato jongleert de film met bekende verhaalelementen: een vliegtuig in een toren, een president, terroristen en de Twin Towers. Interessant om te zien hoe men de elementen herarrangeert in de aangekondigde post-9/11 remake, met de hoofdrolspeler van 'dé film van 2007' (hoewel sommigen daar anders over denken).
Het element van de atoomgeheimen ontbreekt in de 11-septembersaga. Ter aanvulling daarom een landenspecial. Dit eerste deel over Pakistaanse aangelegenheden concentreert zich op de 9/11-thematiek.
Twee artikelen terug werd in het commentaar de vraag gesteld: "Maar wie is Khalid Sheikh Mohammed eigenlijk?" Zutman beantwoordde die vraag met: "hollywoodacteur". Een kort en bondig antwoord, maar wellicht wat cryptisch voor wie de toestand in de wereld niet volledig gevolgd heeft. Laat ik beginnen met een toelichting.
Het officiële antwoord — het meesterbrein achter 11 september en de moordenaar van Daniel Pearl — was al geruime tijd bekend, en door die curieuze Guantanamo-transcripties van twee weken terug plots weer goed voor twee dagen voorpaginanieuws.
De arrestatie van KSM
Eerst maar eens terug naar de arrestatie van Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, op 1 maart 2003 in Rawalpindi, bij Islamabad in Pakistan. In het huis waar hij samen met twee andere mannen werd gearresteerd door Amerikanen en de Pakistaanse veiligheidsdienst ISI woonde een gezin:
They put the women and children -- herded them into another room and went in after the other three suspects. They picked up Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, another man of Middle Eastern origin and a Pakistani man. Now, as I mentioned, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed has been transported out of the country.
Naar verluidt werd Mohammed direct naar Diego Garcia gebracht.
Hoewel?
The Guardian gaat een dag later op bezoek bij de familie waar de arrestatie plaats vond (de zwakzinnige zoon was een van de twee andere arrestanten):
At no point, the family say, was Mohammed or any other man in the house. The agents did not even ask about them. "The only people in the house were my brother, his wife and their kids," Qudsia said. "I have absolutely no idea why the police came here."
The Sunday Times gaat ook een kijkje nemen bij het gezin (van de neef de Pakistaanse hartchirurg waar Prinses Diana een verhouding mee zou hebben gehad) en inspecteert het huis op vochtplekken: waar is die beroemde foto genomen?
While there is no doubting the huge importance of the capture of Khalid, last week’s raid does leave many unanswered questions.Would he really be travelling with phones, laptop computers, documents and lists of names in an organisation that for the past two years has relied on foot messengers, knowing that phone calls can be intercepted and used to trace their position? The Qadoos family point to the photo of Khalid released by Pakistani authorities, purportedly showing him under arrest in the house, looking fat and dazed in a baggy vest as he stands against a wall of peeling paint. A thorough search of the house shows there is no such wall.
De Pakistaanse regering zaaide verdere twijfel: is Mohammed wel afgevoerd naar Diego Garcia of een andere Amerikaanse locatie? Een bericht van 2 maart:
Rashid Qureshi, spokesman for Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, said Mohammed was still in Pakistan being jointly questioned by Pakistani and U.S. agents.
Earlier, a government official who did not want to be identified said Khalid had been handed over to U.S. custody shortly after his arrest, along with the two other suspects.
Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat denied this:
"Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is in the custody of Pakistan's law enforcement agencies and until we have satisfied ourselves, after the interrogation process, of the nature of his activities in Pakistan, there is no question of handing him over to anyone," he said.
"Only when Khalid's country approaches us and makes a formal request for his extradition, only then will the Pakistani government hand him over."
But Information Minister Sheikh Rashid said he could "give no guarantee (Mohammed) still will be in Pakistan tomorrow.
Tijd om duidelijkheid te scheppen zo dacht men bij de Pakistaanse geheime dienst ISI op 10 maart (Reuters):
On Monday, the powerful military Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) held an unprecedented news conference to show foreign journalists what it said were images of a March 1 raid in Rawalpindi that netted al Qaeda kingpin Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.
But few of journalists present were convinced the video -- which did not show Mohammed's face nor any sign of a struggle -- was genuine. Many said it looked like a crude reconstruction.

In the video, an ISI officer is seen briefing half a dozen agents about the impending raid -- in English, as opposed to Pakistan's Urdu mother tongue.
Officials explained this was a reconstruction of the original Urdu briefing, but said the rest of the video was genuine.
But many journalists were unconvinced as a calm cameraman shone his lights on the raiding party, and followed agents as they casually broke into the compound and the house, and walked up the stairs.
There was no sign of a struggle -- or of any urgency. The cameramen then focused on the back and neck of the man officials said was Mohammed, before the man was swiftly hooded.
The video has not been released to the media for broadcast.
Hamid Gul, ISI-directeur in de jaren '80 denkt er het zijne van:
"They are trying to cover up," Lieutenant-General Hamid Gul told Reuters. "I believe he was arrested before, probably in Karachi."
De dood van KSM
Op 11 september 2002 liep in het Laakkwartier Karachi een poging van het ISI en de FBI om Khalid Sheikh Mohammed te arresteren uit de hand.
However, as a plainclothed officer climbed the stairs toward the third-floor apartment, a hand grenade was thrown, and he retreated. Reinforcements then arrived, and for the next few hours a fierce gun battle blazed.

Later, the Pakistani press carried pictures of a message scrawled in blood on the wall of the flat, proclaiming the Muslim refrain of Kalma, in Arabic: "There is no God except Allah, Mohammed is his messenger"). An official who was present in the flat at the time of the shooting has told Asia Times Online that the message was written by Shaikh Mohammed with his own blood as his life drained from him.

But now it emerges that an Arab woman and a child were taken to an ISI safe house, where they identified the Shaikh Mohammed's body as their husband and father. The body was kept in a private NGO mortuary for 20 days before being buried, under the surveillance of the FBI, in a graveyard in the central district of Karachi.

News of the death of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed was intentionally suppressed so that officials could play on the power of his name to follow up leads and contacts.
Tijdens de belegering van het appartement wordt Ramzi Binalshibh gearresteerd, beter bekend als de 'twintigste kaper', die naar verluidt Mohammed Atta zou hebben geselecteerd als leider van de kapers.
'Valuable information'
Inmiddels zijn we 4 jaar verder en heeft KSM de Amerikanen voorzien van allerlei waardevolle informatie. Eerder deed George Bush ter gelegenheid van het 9/11-lustrum deze Bushiaans-charmante verspreking, speciaal voor de fans van controlled-demolition: (beluister voor het fraaie gehakkel de mp3)
He [KSM] told us the operatives had been instructed to ensure that the explosives went off at a high -- a point that was high enough to prevent people trapped above from escaping.
De moord op Daniel Pearl
Op 21 october 2003, als KSM zich nog maar een half jaar op een 'undisclosed location' bevindt, brengt het Witte Huis het bericht naar buiten dat anderhalve week geleden voor de tweede maal de voorpagina's haalde: KSM sneed zelf de keel door van Daniel Pearl. Nu werd daar al langer op gespeculeerd, vooral door de oud-CIA-agent Robert Baer (wiens leven soort van verfilmd werd in Syriana). Baer zou Pearl op 11 september 2001 hebben verteld dat KSM achter de aanslagen zou zitten. Pearl reisde de volgende dag naar Karachi, volgens Baer om dat te onderzoeken. De naasten van Pearl weten daar echter niets van en vragen zich af wat het echte motief voor de moord was.
Nu is er in Pakistan al lang iemand ter dood veroordeeld voor de moord op Pearl: Omar Saeed Sheikh. Op het proces tegen deze Brit, valt nogal wat af te dingen. Zo werd bijvoorbeeld het lichaam van Pearl pas tegen het einde van het proces gevonden, na verhoor van leden van een andere terroristische groep dan waar hij toe behoorde. Het hoger beroep in deze zaak laat al jaren op zich wachten. Wellicht niet zo vreemd als men naar de achtergrond van Omar Sheikh kijkt.
Op kerstavond 1999 werd in India een vliegtuig gekaapt door vijf Pakistanen. Ze eisten de vrijlating van een drie Pakistaanse terroristen die in India gevangen zaten. Een van die drie was Omar Sheikh, veroordeeld voor de ontvoering van enkele Britten. Tijdens zijn proces in '94 werd zijn advocaat betaald door de ISI-chef in London. De drie werden uitgeleverd en nadat Omar Sheikh in Afghanistan ontmoetingen had met Taliban-leider Mullah Omar en Osama Bin Laden, wordt hij door een ISI-kolonel naar een safehouse in Islamabad gebracht.
Hij komt begin 2002 met Pearl in contact als deze onderzoek gaat doen naar de beweegredenen van Richard Reid (de 'shoe bomber'). Hij arrangeert de ontmoeting op 23 januari van Pearl met de leider van de groep waar Reid deel van zou uitmaken, waar Pearl ontvoerd wordt. De politie komt Omar Sheikh op het spoor door in Google "foreign," "kidnapper," en "suspect" in te tikken. Op 12 februari wordt hij gearresteerd, volgens de politie tijdens een spectatulaire inval. In werkelijkheid had hij zich een week eerder gemeld bij een ISI-officier, die hem een week verborgen hield.
Pearl had, vòòr hij in de zaak van Reid dook, vooral gepubliceerd over de banden tussen het ISI, een humanitaire organisatie genaamd het UTN en Bin Laden. Het UTN was een initiatief van Bashiruddin Mahmood, een Pakistaanse atoomgeleerde. De conclusie die zich opdringt, werd door Robert Fisk geformuleerd bij de arrestatie van KSM (die toen nog niet in verband werd gebracht met Pearl):
Like the man accused of arranging the murder of the Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, Mr Mohammed was an ISI asset; indeed, anyone who is "handed over" by the ISI these days is almost certainly a former (or present) employee of the Pakistani agency, whose control of Taliban operatives amazed even the Pakistani government during the years before 2001. Mr Pearl, it should be remembered, arranged his fatal assignation in Karachi on a mobile phone from an ISI office.

"Pro-Taliban elements of Pakistan’s military might warn Bin Ladin (sic) or his associates of pending operations. The U.S. government had information that the former Pakistan Interservices Intelligence Directorate (ISID) head Hamid Gul, as a private citizen, contacted Taliban leaders in July 1999 and advised them that the United States was not planning to attack Afghanistan. He assured them that, as he had “last time,” he would provide three or four hours of warning should there be another missile launch."

Quoting Pakistan foreign office officials, it said, "Dramatic changes were made in the final draft of the inquiry commission report after Pakistani lobbyists arranged meetings with members of the commission and convinced them to remove anti-Pakistan findings".
Alt-F4 veteraan Arnaud de Borchgrave (die ook allerlei sappigs uit de mond van Gul optekende) zag vertrouwelijke informatie van de 11-septembercommissie over het ISI in en citeert er rijkelijk uit.
De directeur
De actieve directeur van het ISI, Mahmud Ahmed, was in september 2001 in de V.S. Een berichtje over het ontbijt van Porter Goss (de huidige directeur van de CIA) op 11 september:Rep. Porter Goss, R-Sanibel, Sen. Bob Graham and other members of the House Intelligence Committee were talking about terrorism issues with the Pakistani official when a member of Goss' staff handed a note to Goss, who handed it to Graham.
"We were talking about terrorism, specifically terrorism generated from Afghanistan," Graham said.
There was much talk that Tuesday's attacks in New York and Washington, D.C. were masterminded by terrorist Osama bin Laden, who lives in Afghanistan, protected by the military Taliban government.
Mahmood Ahmed, director general of Pakistan's intelligence service, was "very empathetic, sympathetic to the people of the United States," Graham said.
Op 8 oktober 2001 verschijnt een ander bericht in de Pakistaanse krant Dawn:
Director General of Pakistan's Inter- Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt Gen Mahmud Ahmed has been replaced after the FBI investigators established credible links between him and Umar Sheikh, one of the three militants released in exchange for passengers of the hijacked Indian Airlines plane in 1999.

DR. RICE: I have not seen that report, and he was certainly not meeting with me.
In bovenstaand citaat, afkomstig van whitehouse.gov, zijn de woorden 'ISI chief' vervangen door twee streepjes.
'Those towers are coming down'
Randy Glass, een voormalig juwelendief en informant van het Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms en de FBI werd eind jaren negentig ingezet in een sting operation tegen illegale wapenhandel. Dat mondde uit in een strafzaak die draaide om de zwarkte markt van raketten en onderdelen voor nucleaire wapens. In de openbare aanklacht werd verzwegen dat het ging om Pakistaanse ISI-agenten; dat kon diplomatiek wel eens gevoelig liggen. Na 11 september 2001 heropende men de zaak, bijvoorbeeld omdat één van de agenten, ene Rajaa Gulum Abbas, een nogal vooruitziende blik had:
One of the most startling developments during the investigation occurred on July 22, 1999, at the TriBeca Grill in New York where Glass, wearing a wire, met with a man referred to in court documents as Abbas, believed to be a Pakistani government agent brought in by Malik. Glass was informed that they wanted to buy a whole shipload of weapons and they said it was for bin Laden.
"At the meeting Abbas said Americans are the enemy and they will have no problem blowing up this entire restaurant because its full of Americans," Glass said. "As we leave the restaurant, Abbas turns and says, 'those towers (the World Trade Center) are coming down.'"
Het stinkende, gorgelende gat
The pit emitted foul odors, loud noises and tremors, shaking the surrounding ground. A rush of water could be heard from its depths (link).
Stel je een dag als alle andere voor. Een dag waarop men ontbijt alvorens naar het werk te gaan, een zaterdagmiddag dat de tuin zomerklaar moet worden gemaakt, of de kinderen naar het voetbal moeten. Zo'n dag. En dan, op een gegeven moment beeft de aarde, en verdwijnt er verderop in de straat een het huis in de grond. Ongeveer in een gat als op deze foto. Geheel onverwacht.
De schok van het gebeurde roept tegenstrijdige emoties op. Die mensen die daar woonden kenden je niet bijster goed, maar toch: ze zijn verdwenen. De realisatie van het onmogelijke: wat je voor onmogelijk hield, gebeurt zomaar. De natuurlijke neiging tot rampentoerisme bevangt ook jou want je wilt voor jezelf zien, nee navoelen wat er is gebeurd. Er is een volmaakt rond gat waarvan je de bodem niet kan zien: je gaat aan de rand staan en staart in de diepte, om te zien wat dat gorgelende geluid is. Maar je ziet niets, want het gat is zeker 100 meter diep. Acute hoogtevrees strijdt met tergende nieuwsgierigheid om de voorrang.
De omhoog komende rioollucht geeft jou en andere omstanders al een indicatie, en de oorzaak wordt al snel geduid: een lekkende rioolbuis. Een lekkende rioolbuis veroorzaakt een gat van 100 meter diepte? Zou het niet andersom kunnen zijn: dat de ineenstorting rioolbuizen heeft afgebroken, dus wat is er eerst?
Tot zover bovenstaande analogie: dit gaat natuurlijk over 9/11. 9/11 blijft dat stinkende gorgelende gat dat maar open blijft; eenieder die regelmatig de cultuur of literatuurpagina's van zijn krant openslaat ziet de steeds wederkerende referentie en fascinatie met 9/11 die in wezen het gat ontkennen: men beschrijft de mensen rondom dat gat: de slachtoffers, het rampentoerisme, de kleine profiteurs. Meer kan men niet doen; over een open donker en stinkend gat valt niets te schrijven wat mensen hoop of duiding kan geven.
Eerder is hier beschreven hoe verschillende columnisten hierop hebben gereageerd. De analyse aldaar is dat men zich aangevallen voelt op zijn positie, en bang is voor het 9/11 rapalje. Bij nader inzien is dat niet correct. Hoewel het mij zo toeleek (de manier van uitdrukken van deze columnisten gaf er alle reden toe) lijkt er toch iets anders aan de hand: een emotionele blokkade. Deze lijkt eerder gevoed door de uitputting van 5 jaar giftige dampen uit die open put: een opgebouwde psychologische weerstand om verder te kijken.
Rigorous Intuition zet 9/11 aan de kant
Jeff Wells, van de weblog Rigorous Intuition is de koning van deep psychology, UFO's, MKULTRA, kindermisbruik en satanistisische netwerken in hoge politieke kringen. 9/11 heeft hij immer zijdelings behandeld. Z'n op zich aardige weblog heeft altijd een trouwe schare aan zwevende UFO-denkers en adspirant-satanisten, 9/11 was voor hem voornamelijk een filosofisch concept.
Typisch Rigorous Intuition:Maar zoals vele anderen voor hem zette hij afgelopen weekend in de posting 'A Dot Too Far' al het controlled demolition denken rondom 9/11 aan de kant:

Though "physical" is a misnomer, since it's almost entirely based upon selective video clips and cherry-picked testimony.Wells kiest dezelfde route als anderen. "I deeply admire your blog, as well as the work of Hopsicker. I also think Nafeez Ahmed is an important and underrated voice on 9/11 and I can’t recommend his WAR ON FREEDOM and WAR ON TRUTH highly enough.
"Reasonable people may and do disagree about the controlled demolition hypothesis, for any number of reasons, not the least of which is that “physical evidence” can be a tough angle to make stick, forensically speaking, especially now that most all of it’s been swept away.
"That said, I’m morally certain (as the philosophers say) that the Towers were blown up. And that even if I’m eventually proven wrong (and I might be), there is every reason at present to defend the controlled demolition hypothesis. Here’s why.
"Molten metal, in all likelihood steel, was found under WTC buildings One, Two and Seven. This metal appears on film of the site taken nearly six weeks after the attacks. Its presence was commented upon extensively by various officials and first responders at the site. It roiled and smoldered for many weeks, perhaps months. I live in New York and, along with millions of others, smelled that pile burning for nearly half a year after 9/11 (the longest uncontrolled fire in any city in US history, if I remember the article in the NY Times correctly). Anyone following the controversy has heard testimony from various witnesses, including firefighters and first responders, about the molten metal. Those of us here in the city probably remember reading articles about it. It was common knowledge in the weeks and months following the attacks. I’ve spoken at length with a first responder who’s active in the 9/11 Truth Movement and is very sick now; he testifies to what others on “the pile” reported seeing: flowing metal throughout the rubble following the attacks. A lot of it. He also confirms that the steel beam cut slant-wise was visible, very much as it appears in photos, when he first arrived at scene within an hour after Tower One “collapsed.”
"Architect Bart Voorsanger, attempting to account for the survival of the North Tower’s antenna, clearly confirms the view that the molten metal underneath the rubble at Ground Zero was steel. Commenting on the antenna, which was made of steel, Voorsanger says, “It was the piece that collapsed onto everything else, and I think it must have fallen far enough away from the internal fires within the center of the Towers that it was not melted into some unrecognizable fused mass.” Here the man described by the Associated Press as having “headed the team of architects that retrieved trade center steel” is acknowledging what multiple eye-witnesses including engineering professionals working at Ground Zero, as well as video and “thermographic” aerial photography (not to mention scientists including Jones) all point to: that masses of molten steel roiled beneath the Towers for weeks, even months after they’d “collapsed.” There has been no rational explanation as to how this could have occurred without the use of explosives or some source of destructive energy other than hydrocarbons.
"NIST appears to understand that no such explanation is possible, that the molten metal (most probably steel) is the Achilles heal of the official “collapse” narrative. Which is why NIST Engineer John Gross now simply denies that molten metal ever existed under the rubble pile.
"Here we might identify the source of some of the rage being directed against you on this post. In the face of what appears to be a bald and arrogant ploy by authorities, one echoing all those others we’ve seen play out in official responses to almost every other aspect of the attacks, you—who’ve fought this battle bravely on so many fronts—appear to capitulate here, going weak in the knees, as if resigning the fight to hold on to the very history of 9/11 even as others risk their livelihoods and reputations to salvage and defend it.
"Yes, the painstaking contextualization of the 9/11 attacks provided by Ahmed is essential and sadly under-emphasized in 9/11 studies. Caveats expressed by Sander Hicks and others concerning the “physical evidence” school of 9/11 skepticism are well-taken, at least by me. Clearly, even if we prove the CD hypothesis, knowing the buildings were blown up won’t tell us all or even most of what we need to know about 9/11.
"But on the other hand, it isn’t fair (though it might appear far more respectable in some circles) to leave the matter at that, especially with the multiple indications in the public record indicating the possibility—make that the likelihood—of controlled demolition. Besides the molten metal issue, there’s the powerful and corroborating testimony from multiple eye-witnesses that has been categorized by David Ray Griffin into eleven categories of observed phenomena, each strongly indicative of, if not exclusive to, controlled demolition.
"With the broad array of relevant data on the matter, 9/11 Truth appears on solid, even fruitful theoretical ground with the controlled demolition hypothesis, especially given the state of the aptly titled “collapse” theory, that “ever-changing, but always flimsy, story” in Kevin Ryan’s words, reliant on “anti-science” whose handful of actual proponents “started with their conclusions and worked backward to some ‘leading hypotheses.’” Of course the bitter fact remains that most of the evidence regarding the Towers’ destruction was hastily and, as has been strenuously argued from official corners, illegally destroyed. (Retired NYPD Officer Craig Bartmer, who labored at Ground Zero, reports rumors widely circulating on “the pile” that “the mob was stealing the steel.”) While certainly crippling to the material investigation, this destruction of evidence, protested vehemently in official quarters, in itself is highly indicative of official complicity. As with 9/11 in general, it is the broader context of the controlled demolition issue, more than any one or few of the multiple anomalies in the official account, where the charnel depths of state complicity come into focus.
"The controlled demolition theory not only best explains the array of specific phenomena witnessed that day, it also points up some disturbing circumstances relating to security at the Towers complex prior to the attacks, and to the roles played by certain agencies—private, State and municipal—in 9/11 and the corrupt military/industrial power structure more generally. The controlled demolition hypothesis also begs some very serious questions pertaining to the precise nature, structure and tactics of state-sponsored terrorism, implying among other things the existence of a special forces unit whose expertise includes spectacular feats of mass human slaughter.
And then there’s the crux of the matter: the psychological angle.
"Kevin Ryan, who was fired from his job with Underwriters Laboratories, the company that certified the steel components of the WTC, observes, “if we really want to zero in on the exact turning point around which we plunged into chaos, we need to focus in particular on the collapse of the World Trade Center buildings. This is where our hearts were wrenched and our minds were made ready for never-ending war, torture, and apparently the end of everything that was American. If we are ever to emerge from this insanity, we need to know how three tall buildings collapsed due to fire, all on the same day, when no such thing has ever happened before.”
"As Ryan implies, whether we like it or not an intelligible account of what brought the Towers down is essential to determining the character and fate of our society. Short of any cogent explanation from our officials we are morally compelled to advocate the most consistent hypothesis regarding their destruction—however incredible we ourselves may find it.
"Here I’ll quote from an essay in which I paraphrase and reflect on observations by Webster Tarpley: “the subliminal effects of 9/11 threaten to permanently distort our at-home-ness in reality, in the physical world, which on that day became a place where majestic state-of-the-art buildings, marvels of engineering and modernist architecture’s capstones, monuments (affirmed by cliché) to human ingenuity and spirit…unpeeled so strangely to dust. The question of how the towers fell isn’t merely academic, but in some measure crucial to our psychological health as a people. If they were destroyed by explosives planted in the structures, then we’ve been compelled to accept a counterfeit view of physical reality, marking the radical intensification of a schizophrenic mindset already endemic in—and increasingly definitive of—Anglo-American culture.
"“The effect of the Towers’ destruction is tied to the structures’ form as well as the place of the ‘tower’ and ‘twin’ archetypes in legend (whether in Tolkien, the Tarot or the Pentateuch for the former, or astrology, religious esoterism and classical myth for the latter). Anthropomorphic totems, the Twin Towers connoted a unity of two (or balanced duality), the harmonious couple (thus love, or lovers), or the self and its reflection: in short, completion, with the North Tower (with its antennae) the yang to the South’s yin (slightly recessive, as if, from the greater Manhattan perspective, backing the other up). Their destruction, then, was an eidetic inscription, rooted in mortal shock, of the shattering of unity, the failure of love, the death of the iconic companions, God’s wrathful judgment (ala Babel) upon our aspirations (and the futility of endeavor) and the fracture of communion (language, community—or logos, word or idea embodied…meaning). Situated at the millennial cusp, at the crossroads of macrocosmic time and superhuman space, the structures’ spectacularly surreal dematerialization unmistakably declared the triumph of disunity, unreason, separation and loss—in short, the reign of antichrist, which 9/11 would appear to have been intended by certain of its architects to herald.”
"I do not imply here that I necessarily believe that the fall of the Twin Towers announced the advent of the “end-times.” But I do believe their destruction reverberates as such an omen, however reflexively, among many in western society and beyond. And based upon express oligarchic intent to reduce Earth’s human population, I also take seriously the possibility that 9/11 was intended as such a harbinger by at least certain of its sponsors. And I certainly do not discount the possibility that the fears engendered by 9/11 might yet qualify it as the herald of a final judgment (perhaps in the form of nuclear or biological war), especially if they are not bravely, rationally and collectively confronted.
"Tarpley warns that 9/11 plays into radical millenarian or “end-time” neuroses, exacerbating fears and paranoia exemplified by the many millions strong “Left Behind” or “rapture” movements, whose adherents—including former Attorney General John Ashcroft, implicated in facilitating 9/11—have been powerful allies of the current administration. Investigating, determining and articulating more or less precisely how the Towers fell may be one of the central acts of demystification that breaks the pernicious spell under which 9/11, called by Tarpley the “myth of the 21st century,” holds the world. The “pancake collapse” is perhaps the chief idol of the official 9/11 cult to be smashed, as it appears to most effectively mask the iniquity of the attack’s actual sponsors.
"To fathom what was taken from us on 9/11, recall the technological achievement represented by our shimmering Towers, once widely assumed—whatever their aesthetic flaws—to be masterpieces of engineering, state-of-the-art and revolutionary. The Twin Towers occupied a lineage of epic industrial expressions including the Brooklyn and Golden Gate Bridges, the Empire State Building, and the moon landing. In this sense they signified a soaring, celebratory triumph of our nation’s commitment to science, industry, technology and commerce, and were an enduring symbol of our collective ingenuity, ambition and intelligence. (Whoever expected to outlive them?) As the casual TV viewer understood, they could withstand hurricanes, earthquakes and jet-liner impacts. And most anyone watching that day knew they weren’t about to fall.
"Here we may begin assessing the precise depths of our betrayal on 9/11. Again, one doesn’t need to have liked the Twin Towers—our blasé, even disdainful regard of them is the point. The extent to which we took them for granted marks our shock upon their destruction, in which we were faced with—and forced to swallow—our own failure as a culture to protect those left alive in the buildings, awaiting our rescue. Mistaking it for humility, we internalize this guilt, inducted into a collective masochism marked by a loss of analytical impetus, of which our acceptance of the simplistic pancake-collapse “theory” is symptomatic. Shamed children, we abide the illegal destruction of the rubble pile, eager to see our mess cleaned up, erased, and blamed on others.
"Imagine one of the Towers collapsing without the handy scapegoat of a people whose natural resources we covet, and which our leaders had already divvied up. A lost or malfunctioning airliner had freakishly struck a Tower at high speed, let’s say. The building’s failure should have been an unacceptable err, a blow to our collective sense of ourselves so severe no resources would be spared in careful scrutiny of the event, as happens after catastrophes in societies valuing knowledge, quality, professionalism, craftsmanship, expertise and life. To recover our sense of ourselves, we would have taken every care—as healthy societies have throughout history—to articulate as precisely as possible the causal aspects of the disaster. Once the search for survivors was called off we’d have carefully and thoroughly scrutinized, documented and analyzed the scene. Recognizing that untold lives may depend on our investigation, that our findings could rewrite engineering code books, we would have encouraged a period of active and open debate, sparing no sacred cows, until clear, concise and reasonable explanations emerged as to why the Tower failed to live up to its revolutionary design.
"On 9/11, the Twin Towers’ massive 47-interlinked-column core structure and 240 interlocking outer or “box” columns failed to impede the weight of the upper floors in their rush to the ground by so much as a second. Yet with next to none of it subjected to forensic examination, the rubble was hauled away as quickly as possible and nearly all of the steel sold as scrap on Asian markets. As Kevin Ryan notes, the NIST report, refusing to consider the controlled demolition hypothesis, dares take us only to the onset of the “collapse event,” after which its authors merely declare that “global” failure of the astonishing order observed was, somehow, “inevitable.” It takes twenty-two thousand pages of ignoring principles, observed phenomena, eyewitness reports, of distorting physical and computer models, fudging numbers and morphing variables, for NIST to swindle us into an abstruse combination of confessedly “less-likely” scenarios.

For the Hebrews symbolizing establishment and strength, justice and mercy, as pillars of cloud by day and fire by night they led the Israelites from bondage, connoting a union of opposites, or harmony, fullness, the guidance and immanence of God.
"Joachim and Boaz are central symbols of Freemasonry, bespeaking the resonance of the twin pillar motif at the deepest mythic strata of our cultural imagination. Guardians of the holy-of-holies, the twin pillars are ineluctably associated with mystery and initiation. Their magical destruction then, in the imago of the Twin Towers, is a sort of reverse, false or diabolic initiation into the realms of unreason, into the death or withdrawal of God. In the face of this threat to our image of the protective deity (or state) we accept the Towers’ “pancaking” and like raped or battered children turn the blame inward. With grasping sincerity, we acknowledge as dogma officialdom’s bloated appeal to its own authority.

BBC correspondent Jane Standley meldt de ineenstorting van WTC 7 (hier Salomon Brother's building genoemd), 20 minuten voor dat het feitelijk gebeurt. De kijkers zien WTC7 gewoon staan, rechts van haar hoofd.
Een nieuwe week, een nieuw schandaal. Terwijl ondergetekende zich op Sargasso vermeide met de fall-out van de alt-f4-posting van vorige week, was men aan de andere kant van de oceaan op iets nieuws gestoten. Er waren immers beelden opgedoken van BBC World op 9/11/01, waarin bij nader inzien iets heel opmerkelijks gebeurt: rond 16:58 lokale tijd wordt met zekerheid de ineenstorting van WTC7 gemeld, een feit wat pas 20 minuten later zal gebeuren. De eerste berichten worden door de nieuwslezer voorgelezen, waarna overgeschakeld wordt naar de correspondent, die dit nieuws herhaalt, niet beseffende dat WTC7 voor iedereen zichtbaar overeind staat.
Het fragment maakt 5,5 jaar na dato iets duidelijk. De gebeurtenissen zoals ze op 9/11 werden verslagen bevatten elementen die daarna uit het gangbare verhaal zijn weggepoetst, veronachtzaamd of gewoon vergeten. Niet alleen de instorting van WTC 7 zelf (8 uur na 1&2) maar ook de geruchten voordien dat ie zou gaan instorten, zijn grotendeels vergeten. Dit fragment is voor beide feiten een goeie opfrisser.
De publicatie van dit al, als eerste bij de vrienden van 'Smoking Is Healthier Than Fascism' prisonplanet.com noopt de BBC tot een reaktie via hun weblog 'The Editors':

Out of all the surrounding buildings that suffered massive damage - WTC 3,4,5,6 - and assorted others that suffered minor damage (amoung them, WTC 7 - Salomon Brothers Building), BBC - by merely a mistake and in confusion - picked exactly the right one that was going to fall -.... ;)
(Good job! Hey, BBC is incompetent - they lose tapes AND they claim buildings fall that haven't - but what LUCK! They hit the lottery! What a 'lucky guess', huh?) BBC should go to Vegas, with those odds - you'd be rich.

Now more on the latest building collapse in New York ... you may have heard a few moments ago we were talking about the Solomon Brothers Building collapsing and indeed it has, and apparently it's only a few hundred yards away from where the World Trade Center Towers were. And it seems that this was not the result of a new attack; it was because the building had been weakened during this morning's attacks. We'll probably find out more about that from our correspondent Jane Standley. Jane, what more can you tell us about the Solomon Brothers' Building and its collapse?

Op 22 Feb j.l. vond men op een (niet officiele) krocht van www.archive.org 270 uur aan televisie: de integrale uitzendingen van ABC,BBC,CBS, FOX en NBC van 11/9 s'ochtends tot aan 13/9 's avonds. Na de ontdekking van het BBC-fragment en de resulterende brouhaha schrok archive.org zich te pletter en trok haastig de beelden van het net. Dit viel niet goed ('samenzwering!), maar later bleek er toch een goede verklaring voor te zijn.
I've spent most of the week investigating this issue, but this is where we have to end the story. I know there are many out there who won't believe our version of events, or will raise further questions. But there was no conspiracy in the BBC's reporting of the events. Nobody told us what to say.
